My son Dan died on Memorial Day in 2009. When I told his twin 

sister, Deedee, she was staying in a Bed & Breakfast on the coast. She took 

a walk by a nearby creek alone to cry. Two dragonflies came and sat on a 

rock next to her after a moment one flew away and disappeared. While this 

was happening she could feel Dan's presence all around her and after she 

felt more peaceful. The rest of the family only half believed her story until it 

began to happen to everyone else as well. 

 

Only a week after his death on the exact hour he died, my daughter 

Debbie called me outside to come and sit with her and her sister Florrie. 

We were alone out by the pool, the pool that Dan had always loved and 

could often be found in. Then three dragonflies began gliding over the 

surface of the water. They went back and forth around the yard and near 

the pool for more than a half an hour before Florrie said; "Mom it's Dan 

trying to speak to you!" Then all three of us began crying out "Dan we love 

you!" I began to say "Come here, come over to me!", and the dragonfly 

started to hover within two inches of my fingertips. 

 

I started to feel this wave of an overwhelming sense of peace and 

calmness roll over me. I knew it was my son telling me "It's okay Mom, I'm 

alright. I'm in a better place; and though I can't touch you, I'm still with you. 

It was a bit of elation in my sorrow. The dragonfly later flew away and came 

back a couple of hours later to visit my daughter Donna and my youngest 

grandchild, Anna. 

 

In the last five long years after Dan's death everyone has had 

uplifting visits from dragonflies, and I sign every piece of Art I make with a 

dragonfly and hope it will give me a little touch of happiness doing 

something I love. Dan is my inspiration, the thing that gives me go for it 

power and follow my dreams. Whenever I see a Dragonfly I smile.
